Students coming from the underserved communities go through systematic constraints in terms of health care facilities and hearing impairments often remain a concern for them. There have been consistent challenges in their diagnosis and accessibility to the devices has been a problem. Over the years there are constant limitations in healthcare inclusion. Though we have advancements in technology, accessibility is still a recurring issue, considering factors like affordability, lack of awareness or the absence of a trained support network. These challenges affect the children and young adults who rely heavily on auditory cues for social integration and academic support.
This pressing issue often results in a situation where the students suffer more than hearing loss, affecting their learning outcomes, confidence development and even long term opportunities. In the light of this Avakarnanam, a youth- led initiative, aims not only to bring awareness but to promote hearing support as a primary need. Avakarnanam believes that hearing health is a fundamental resource that should be inclusive and accessible. Our initiative is to strengthen awareness, bridge gaps and provide adequate support to those organisations which are building an inclusive set up for hearing - impaired students.
